Supplementing

I totally get it. Supplementing may have not been part of your feeding plan.

First- if you have questions about the need for supplementation or have concerns about your baby’s weight gain or how well nursing is going, talk to your pediatrician and make an appointment with an IBCLC!.

So what is supplementing, anyway? It just means that you are giving your baby something extra besides what he/she is getting directly from the breast.

This can be done with:

🌟 Pumped milk

🌟 Donor breastmilk

🌟 Formula

Supplementing does not equal failing! There are so many ways that we can individualize a feeding plan that works for you, in order to make sure that baby’s weight gain is good AND that we are helping to protect your milk supply. Each situation is so unique and the reasons for supplementation can vary greatly. Don’t try to figure it out on your own- let me know if you need to set up a consult!
